Professional Bio.
Before relocating to the United States, Shuting worked as an Educational Psychologist in the Ministry of Education of Singapore for 11 years. She gained extensive skills and knowledge in psychoeducational assessments, developing school systems and programs, and collaborating with parents, external agencies and teachers to support the academic, social emotional and behavioral needs of children. Her past experience affirmed her passion and aspiration to continue in this field when she relocated to the United States, leading her to transfer her degree to the United States and currently pursue her Doctoral Degree in School Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is also currently completing her practicum externship at a Therapeutic Day School in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, where she provides individual therapy, group therapy, as well as crisis management and support for a diverse group of children with significant histories of trauma, mood and anxiety difficulties, as well as social emotional issues.
Shuting strives to develop an intentional, genuine and deeply caring therapeutic relationship. She works collaboratively with clients, empathically confronting and reframing their personal issues and encouraging them to bring about positive change. Shuting believes that everyone has their strengths, competencies and resilience to cope with stressors and adversities in life. She is dedicated to helping clients discover their capabilities and resources and supporting them in their individual journeys of healing, skill mastery and growth. She uses an integrative approach depending on each client’s needs, implementing various techniques including cognitive behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, and play with children/youth.
Shuting embraces everyone’s differences and recognizes the intersectionality of multiple dimensions of identity. As an immigrant who grew up in a multicultural city, she recognizes the importance of being aware of one’s cultural background, worldview and personal values in order to provide effective and culturally responsive intervention and support for diverse individuals and families.
