Professional Bio.
Dr. Mashana Smith is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She received both her Masters and Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology from DePaul University. She currently works in private practice with adolescents, young adults and adults in individual, family, and couples therapy. For the past 25 years, Mashana has committed herself to improving the mental health and well-being of children, teens, families and couples. She firmly believes that we are all able to move beyond merely surviving in our lives; with the right support, we are able to transition into a state of thriving.
Mashana approaches her therapy from a strength-based framework that assumes that each of us has inner strengths that can be tapped into. Despite our many strengths, life can be challenging at times. As a therapist, Mashana's goal is to offer you a dedicated space to navigate life’s challenging situations, relationships and emotions. Such challenges can sometimes lead to depression, anxiety, strained relationships or low self-esteem. In this space, Mashana offers you tools that will help you foster long-term growth and change.
Mashana has extensive experience with children and families through her long history of therapy and consultation with school systems, child welfare and social services. Also, when she is not in private practice, Mashana engages in policy and advocacy efforts to ensure that an equity lens is considered in any newly developed policies. Finally, Dr. Smith has dedicated herself to training the next generation of psychologists.
